I have been planning to do some things with the D6 system for quite a while. I wanted to actually purchase a license for the system last year, before Eric Gibson made the announcement of making it open, but was told that he wouldn't be selling the license due to his plans. Sucked for me because I was wanting to get some stuff out there right away. Instead, I had to wait for WEG to open up the system like everyone else. Now, a few of the rules have been made open, with the OGL license attached to some of the PDFs. Luckily, I can run with one of my projects since it was based on D6 Adventure.

I have several ideas that I want to hammer out using Open D6, but to list it as compatible, I have to submit my work to WEG. Not a big deal, but Eric is a hard man to get in touch with. I don't know whether my emails will be read and responded to to get the okay to put the logo on them. Hopefully, things will go smoothly enough. I'll keep folks apprised of my situation whenever I get things going.

Anyone else consider using Open D6 for projects?

To be honest, Open d6 looks dead in the water to me. I'm not even sure if we know which free licence is under, which parts of the text are free, etc. The site hasn't been updated; no Open d6 products have (to my knowledge) been released yet. It needs a System Reference Document, it needs a brand and it needs clear leadership from someone somewhere - and I haven't seen any of that yet.

I did take the opportunity to download the d6 Fantasy and d6 Adventure books, but they're massive and difficult to read through.

I wish you the best of luck, but there are so many other open systems out there.

At the very least, the game mechanics are under OGL, so that's a plus. It's just that the compatibility license hasn't been offered yet. Too bad, too, I've talked to a lot of people who want to see the system supported.

I've been toying around with the idea of doing D6, but adding adjectives to it. I've always found it hard it get into character when my score is defined as 1d6+2. I guess I've been spoiled by MSH/4C and Fudge in that way. Just being able to say "I'm Great at this!"
